Having an Awesome Business Portrait is Vital!

March 24, 2013

I was talking to a realtor the other day  and she was lamenting about how people don’t recognize her from her head shot on her web site. My first thought was “no wonder it’s completely out of date!” I am the first one to admit, I do NOT like having my photo taken, but in today’s internet world, there is no getting past it. This poor woman’s head shot was at least ten years old with a cheesy old fashioned back ground.

Here at MarkLovettphotography.com we recommend getting a new business portrait taken every five years. Mark does a superlative job of getting an awesome image that looks natural, but better than what you normally look like. In other words, he will make you look your best, but at the same time people will know it’s you! He has a certain lighting technique that gets extra catch lights in the eyes. He knows how to position and how to light his subjects.

Everyone can benefit from a great business portrait…models, business people, actors, people on online dating sites, you name it. Here are some samples from our Studio. Note, some of these are outside and some are in our Studio.

If you live in Gaithersburg, Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Washington DC, Potomac, McLean, Kensington, or Rockville, give us a call to schedule an appointment at 301 873 4701. Or we are happy to come to your place of work. We give discounts to large groups.

The Beauty of Photo Journalism

March 19, 2013

Over the past ten years or so, formal  photography has sort of gone out of vogue. That is not to say that couples don’t want those traditional family portraits, just that capturing real emotion from the players has become a lot more meaningful. As I stated in my last post, Mark has an uncanny ability to capture these moments. He may see a little gem in an overall shot, that others may not see, and hone in on it and crop it in a way that brings it to life. There  is a shine or glistening quality to Mark’s images that really come out under his editing skills. Below are some photojournalistic  samples focusing on couples. Notice the very real emotions that are captured by Mark.

I love these type of shots! Some of these shots were taken from very far away, but thanks to the super sniper lens that is no problem for Mark. Let us help you retain the memories of your special day. Give us a call at 301 873 4701 and let’s talk.

FALL FAMILY SESSION

October 25, 2012

Fall Family Photography sessions in Maryland with  Mark Lovett  Photography are really fun,  and we get some awesome images that you’ll want to keep forever!

We had a fantastic fall afternoon photographing this fun family of four recently!  We had late afternoon golden light, fall leaves, old fencing and horses at this special location in Gaithersburg, MD.    The very cute little boys, ages two and four, kept everything very candid and fresh!

Do you like that background bokeh in the below image?

FAMILY PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY – FAMILY REUNION

September 14, 2012

FAMILY PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY – FAMILY REUNION by Mark Lovett Photography at marklovettphotography.com

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a very nice large family reunion at the Normandy Farms restaurant in Potomac, MD. All the people were so warm and friendly and we really had a wonderful time for about an hour before their family dinner.  These folks came from all over the world to unite for this very rare and special occasion and it was important to get great pictures of them. Below is just a very small sampling of all the great moments that we captured.

The deer were plentiful at the same location:

There were quite a few children and grand children at this gathering. We had the opportunity to work with several of the families as well as one large grouping of about 40 people. There were three people missing so we managed to add them in later with a little cut and paste in photoshop. We ended up with a very nice 24×36 portrait of the entire family.

Senior Photos by Mark Lovett Photography at Potomac School Mclean,VA

April 30, 2012

We had the opportunity to do the photography for several graduating high school seniors from Potomac School in McLean VA last weekend and it really was a great experience. All of the young ladies and young men were truly a joy.  I really got into trying to capture a variety of looks in a short period of time and bringing out each  individual personality. We felt like we made many new friends and look forward to doing it again, and again.

It was pretty cool to find out that several of the seniors are interested in photography, music, oil painting (like me) and other interests. I’m sorry that I didn’t get a chance to visit the school’s art show while I was there because I found out that two of the seniors have their own photography in the show. They all seem destined for greatness and it was a pleasure to get to know them a little bit and have some fun with the camera.

The parents were great too, and we would like to thank Barb Wheeler for being the driving force and inspiration behind making this happen.

I also met some of the alumni while we were there. Dave Moses, I believe this is the proper spelling, shared that he played the drums the night before with two international celebrity musicians at Potomac school the night before.  These two guys play bass and drums with the Gregg Allman Band and with Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. Wow!  The Potomac School seems to be an incredible opportunity for students.

Below are only a few of the moments that we captured.  We have many more!  Please leave a comment at the bottom.  Thanks so much for visiting!

    Mark,
I am thrilled with the pictures that you took of my daughter Rebecca and I am really impressed with how you were able to capture each Potomac School students personality. I have never seen a nicer collection of school photographs, ever. Thank you for suggesting that we include outside shots. The color is amazing. Hopefully you will come back next year earlier in the school year so that your beautiful photographs can be included in the Potomac School senior year book pages. Also I can’t forget to mention how great it was to work with your lovely wife Laurel. She made everything run on schedule. Thanks again.
